Maintaining PNG transparency

I want to postwork a PNG image which has a transparent background. This appears to work fine (I can see a chequered background in PostworkShop), but when I save as a new PNG the transparency is lost. I'm checking the "maintain transparency" box in the post-processing section, but is there something else I need to do?

The post-processing setting

The post-processing setting that you mentioned is applied to the active image, you may still have a background layer which is not transparent.

Did you set the background transparent (in Options/Preferences/Canvas setup)? Even if your image was transparent and your filters preserve transparency, the final result is composited on the background which is white by default.

No, I didn't (PostworkShop 3 newbie here - haven't explored thoroughly yet :) ). I don't have access to my copy of PwS at the moment, but I'll try it and let you know. Thanks for the quick reply!

That setting got me what I

That setting got me what I wanted, thanks; however it's furstrating that you have to set it on every new project. I prefer preferences that remember their settings. ;)
